Direction:
1. Mix all the ingredients
(except shortening) in the Pao Mix well. Pour in 450ml (about 2 cups) of
warm water. Knead well till soft. Add shortening and knead again
for about 15 mins (5 mins if machine is used) till the surface is smooth,
slightly elastic. If the dough is too hard, add water if too soft, add
flour.
2. Leave aside for 5-10 mins.
3. Roll the dough into long
stripe and divide into 40 portions. Flatten each portion into thin
piece. Add filling and roll again to form Pao shape. Trim into
desired shapes. Place Pao onto small square piece of grease paper.
Cover with plastic wrap or wet cloth to prevent the dough from drying.
Leave aside in a cool place and wait till it rises to double the sizes.
(About 40-45 mins)
4. Steam the Pao over high
flame for 10 minutes. Steamer should be preheated.
